Rooted in bamboo,
raised by youth
Chungtatre.com started in 2016 as a student sketch club in Hanoi drawing bamboo houses. Today we are a movement: architects, farmers, artists, surfers, coders and grandmas weaving together.
“Tre” is bamboo — Vietnam’s most humble, most resilient material. “Chung ta” is “we”. Our philosophy is simple: if young people can build with bamboo, they can rebuild the country. We run eco-villages, mobile bamboo schools, river clean-ups, craft markets and Vietnam’s happiest youth festival.

Bamboo Architecture Lab
Parametric bamboo domes, schools, bridges and floating houses. Students learn to cut, treat, bend and raise structures with master artisans from Phu Tho and Quang Nam.

Eco Villages & Rivers
From Hue lagoon to Mekong islets: mangrove planting, river plastic traps, food forests, solar kitchens and zero-waste homestays run by local youth co-ops.

Youth Culture & Craft
Tre Fest, night markets, indigo dyeing, lacquer, hip-hop x ca tru, zines and films. We keep heritage cool so grandma’s craft becomes Gen-Z’s job.

2016 — First sketch: 8 students, 1 bamboo grove in Ba Vi. First 20m2 hut collapses, we laugh, we rebuild.
2019 — Tre School on wheels: mobile workshop truck tours 12 provinces, 3,400 kids learn to weave walls.
2023 — Hue Lagoon campus: floating classrooms + solar library win national green architecture prize.
2026 — Tre Forest City plan: 10-hectare youth eco-district with 100% bamboo housing. You are invited.

New here? Start with a weekend clean-up or a market visit. No skills needed — only curiosity and rain jacket.
No. 80% of our volunteers never touched bamboo before. You’ll learn cutting, weaving, cooking, first-aid and teamwork in day one.
Yes. Average age of team leaders is 23. Elders and masters advise, youth decide and build. Board is 60% under 30.
72% to village builds & stipends, 18% to tools & treatment, 10% to festivals. Reports published every Tet.
Absolutely. Camps are bilingual Vietnamese-English. Visa support letter provided for 2+ week programs.
Treated luong bamboo lasts 25-30 years. Our 2018 school still stands through 4 typhoons. We teach borax-boric treatment + design for disassembly.
